Spread the Love

Early morning arrives, and you stare up the ceiling. Do you stay in bed for a while? Are you someone who springs out of bed? Do you automatically switch to mommy mode? Or are you someone who sighs deeply and grunts as you walk to the bathroom?

Besides, nobody wants to be stressed the moment they wake up. I’m pretty sure you want to ease into your day as calmly as possible. So do I.

It can be a real test with kids because once they open those sweet little eyes, you’re in it for the next 14-16 of your waking hours.

Having a good 30 minutes or a (generous) glorious hour to yourself can do wonders. Also, it will help you get a good mindset and feel in control of RIGHT NOW.

Here are 7 steps you can follow to make your early morning easier BEFORE anyone in the house wakes up.

1. Drink water as you greet the early morning hour!

First things first, wake your body up by drinking a full glass of water or two. This will stir everything up and improve your overall circulation. This gives you a quick boost of energy. Water helps your body flush away toxins and stay healthy.

While you slept for 6 hours or less, your body needs rehydration as soon as you wake up. It can also rev up your metabolism to burn some pesky or hefty pounds away.

2. Hygiene! YES, please!

Take a swift shower or wash your face. Don’t forget to brush your teeth. You know this is a given step for most of us. However, it can be a real task if you don’t do it early. As we all know, it gets pushed behind, and a whole day is gone.

Moms feel like this step is a luxury. But, no, it is a necessity.

If a shower isn’t your thing in the morning, then grab a dry shampoo to use and refresh your hair. You can also include a quick skincare routine in your step.

Ditch your pajamas and silky nighties and changed your clothes. Commit not to do just the minimum. I raise my hand that PJs all day seem cozy, yet getting into clothes that set your mind into a ready to face anyone or anything makes all the difference.

Undoubtedly, refreshing habits are a great start to enliven yourself in the early morning.

3. Make your bed.

Who here wants to have 1 quick chore done first thing?

Right! Fixing the sheets and fluffing the pillows are a sure way to push productivity mode on. You are going to feel a sense of accomplishment when you do this early on. It will definitely pave the way for the rest of your to-do list.

Another way to calm yourself is to see things around you tidy and clean. And that starts in your bedroom. It lessens the stress and starts your day right. Who knew just doing this simple and quick task leads your day progressively.

4. Set aside phones and other devices.

As soon as we wake up, we are all guilty of reaching over our nightstands for our phones/devices.

If you can, refrain from it. Otherwise, you’ll be stuck in the thumb-scrolling frenzy with blue light shining on your face, and the next thing you know, 30 minutes have passed.

With this placed on the back end, you can focus on what’s really important for you early in the morning. Maybe aim to quickly check the phone 5 minutes AFTER everyone had breakfast and was ready for the day. Then put it somewhere else again.

5. Draft the day.

Set 3 High Priority tasks. Making a list of a run-down plan of the day can get you through the entire day. You are set to tackle each one of them. It doesn’t have to be strictly productivity check-offs but a bonus if you find efficient ways to do them.

6. Quiet time in the early morning.

Pray/Meditate/Read/Journal.

This step feeds your soul. To enumerate some examples:

  • Grab your journal and write the things you are most grateful for.
  • Pick up the book that inspires you the most this month and read.
  • Additionally, meditate and open your mind, and heart to hear God’s words.
  • Pray fervently and humbly.
  • Lastly, softly recite positive affirmations.

Practice what makes your soul grow and flourish.

7. Move your body!

Now, this is a great booster blend for the body and mind. It rejuvenates every part of your body. You think there is no way you can dedicate some time to exercise this early. Thus, a chance to do it without distraction is a good motivation to do it in the first place.

If you are not into the sweaty heart-pumping exercise, then grab a mat and try yoga instead. Which many believe not only gets your body moving but also your mind clearing. Therefore carry out what you love; that way, it is never a chore for you. You run, walk, lift, jump rope, cycle, or do aerobics. Get moving!

Have you ever felt a rush of “happy feels” when you’d exercised before? Bingo! The body gives off hormones called endorphins that help you deal with stress, and serotonin regulates your mood. Other hormones like dopamine have a positive impact on how you feel.

There is a heap of health benefits that exercise can do for you. That includes not only your physical health but also your mental health. As a result, you’re going to reap positive outcomes for your overall well-being.

By doing this last step, what a better and happy way to end your early morning routine!

Your early morning habits can influence your day significantly. They also act as the backbone that carries you throughout the day. In fact, the more you stick to what’s important to you in the morning, the more you can shift a positive tone the rest of the day.

Whatever tasks you are about to face today, you will be ready. You have set the mood, adjusted your outlook from within, and are equipped to achieve your goals of the day.

You can be the best mom for your kids when you care for yourself as you do for them. Every mom has her own AM routines, and that’s great. These steps are simply a guide to help you stay motivated as you do your own morning routine. Make self-care a priority.

For that reason, pick two or three of the above-listed and start building your morning routine. For the next 3 weeks, strive to be consistent as possible. When necessary, reassess as you go as you implement the steps.

In the long run, you decide if you want to add more of the steps above; or incorporate one of your own morning habits that aren’t listed. This isn’t a sprint; this method takes time. New habits require time and consistency.
